Let’s Cook Authentic Laksa in Minutes

by Tina on March 21, 2011 · Asian Inspired Recipes

Believe it or not my first bowl of Laksa was in Munich, Germany at Oktoberfest. After doing some pub crawling and hours of fun in quite a few beer tents I ended up having a bowl of Laksa.

I swear it cured my hunger and allowed me to make it through the night.

Did I mention to you that this is Laksa has a flavor that will make you swear off fast food forever? Ok, maybe not forever but for at least a month. If you’ve never tried this and are skeptical just give it a try because you will not regret it. You can get the ingredients for this at any grocery store so don’t worry about that. The great thing about this recipe is that you can change the shrimp for another type of seafood if you want but I’m not sure why you would want to do that.

When making this dish keep in mind there really isn’t a set amount of ingredients. I would suggest using 4-5 shallots, 4-5 dried prawns, 6-7 garlic cloves (because the more garlic the better), and 10-12 medium prawns. The amount of fresh pepper you add to the blender really does depend on how hot you want it. I like to add 2 because it gives it just the kick it needs. Once I have put everything in my bowl for serving I also add a few dashes of soy sauce for a bit of additional flavor. Please don’t let the idea of adding fish balls to your Laksa turn you off. They are actually packed with flavor and have a nice texture. The soy puffs I sometimes omit from the recipe but for the first time I suggest adding a couple. This is such a tasty soup that I think you will really enjoy.

I’d love to hear what you think about this video or article.
